I am getting an early start on this site just to be ready. Since Hillary is actually running, one day she will talk about how much she respects the Second Amendment and how she would never take guns away from hunters. If we are really lucky, she will have a photo op holding a double barrel shotgun. I don't expect that she will actually fire it. And perhaps, the American Hunters and Shooters Association will endorse her.
At any rate, this site will be ready for that day.
Once again, Hillary believes in the Second Amendment but has no problem pushing a laundry list of gun control measures that do nothing to prevent crime.
Speaking about pushing an assault weapons ban, she claims that these guns were kept out of the hands of criminals for awhile, but now they are back on the street and more cops are being killed as a result. Facts do not seem to be a part of Hillary's reality.
From the Wall Street Journal Political Diary (04/22/08):
ABC News reported that the Obama campaign sent out an automated phone call message yesterday featuring a gun owner claiming that the Illinois Senator "respects our traditions" while "Senator Clinton voted to allow guns to be confiscated." The call refers to the fact that Mrs. Clinton was one of 16 senators to vote against an amendment barring police from confiscating guns from homeowners during an emergency, as was done with abandon in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Hillary Clinton quickly responded with her own "robocall" that attempted to tar Mr. Obama as an elitist, anti-gun liberal. The call featured a narrator deploring the fact that as an Illinois state senator, Barack Obama "supported a ban on all handguns, and he even personally filled out a questionnaire saying he supported the ban. Now instead of telling you the truth about that, he's trying to cover it up, saying he never saw the questionnaire -- even though his handwriting was on it." . . .
It's well known that Democrats decided to soft-pedal the gun issue after being hurt in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections. But this year the gun question has come back with a vengeance, with the unusual twist that both major Democratic candidates now are competing to see just how pro-gun each can portray themselves as being.
....She has promised more funding for the COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) program, an increased effort to fight recidivism and some moderate gun control - such as renewal of the assault-weapons ban.....* To renew the ban on assault weapons and repeal the Tiahrt amendment, which restricts federal authorities from sharing gun-trace information with local law enforcement.
Remember that the Tiahrt amendment only prevents the farming of trace data for lawsuits. It does not impact law enforcement efforts in any way.
"I ... think we should reinstate the assault weapons ban (that expired in 2004) in order to give our police officers a fighting chance against the criminals on the street with these military-style assault weapons," Clinton said Tuesday.
Perhaps she wants the 1994 ban back. Of course it did nothing beyond cosmetically changing firearms, like removing the flash suppressor. Or, perhaps she is in favor of H.R.1022 , which is very different from the 1994 law. H.R.1022 would be the end of AR-15 pattern rifles.
Either way, she demonstrates herself to be an enemy of gun rights.
AUSTIN – Hillary Rodham Clinton, locked in a fierce battle for Texas, said Monday that as president, she would not try to impose New York-like gun restrictions at the national level.
Mrs. Clinton said in an interview with The Dallas Morning News that she would like to see bans on assault weapons and the end of loopholes that allow weapons to be sold at gun shows without required background checks.
"There can be a meeting of the minds between lawful gun owners and those who believe we can protect Second Amendment rights without giving in to the bad guys," she said.
